LaShae Boyd is a contemporary mixed media artist based in Columbus, Ohio. Working with acrylic, pastel, glitter, and other materials, her practice explores the spiritual and psychological dimensions of the Black experience. Through themes of personal and generational trauma, black faith, and ancestral memory, Boyd examines resilience as both inheritance and power.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio Boyd earned her BFA at Columbus College of Art and Design in 2019. She has been greatly recognized in her community as an important artist, teacher, speaker and mentor. Boyd has received both national and international recognition, with work featured in publications such as 614 Magazine, Shoutout LA, and New American Paintings (Issue #167, 2023). Boyd also exhibited in the 15th edition of the 2024 Havana Biennial in Cuba.

Boyd’s staged subjects explore the human psyche through a unique visual language inspired by Carl Jung’s concept of the “shadow self.” Her work examines the balance between the conscious and unconscious mind, questioning whether embracing repressed emotions can lead to spiritual transcendence. Drawing from Expressionism, Surrealism, and Pop Art, Boyd uses vibrant complementary colors, magenta-toned figures, distorted photographic collage, and layered repetitive imagery to reveal each subject’s inner darkness and transformation. Through these works, she creates space for conversations about self-discovery, healing, and metaphysical growth.
